Yes it's our one and only dvla that im referring to.

Quite by accident I came across a classic car forum that had a thread discussing how to get more info about a cars history from the dvla. I was sceptical at first but after filling in a one page form and sending them a fiver I was sent about 3 weeks later all the records of ownership that the dvla held. They even sent the official documentation relating to the import from germany and some other stuff called certificate of newness

Anyways if anyone has wondered if they can get more insight into the history of their car through the dvla then the answer is yes and in my case at least it was money well worth spending.

I'd be interested in a link to the forum thread/more details- I have a classic bike still on its original plate and thought DVLA would not release this information- or at least no more than is held on the current V5.

What exactly do you get back? The names and addresses of the previous keepers?

I have done this with all my classics, going back to the 90s. Nice to know its still just a fiver

OP-what did you put regarding "How are you going to use this information and why do you want it?" out of interest?

Could you tell us what sort of thing I will be getting for my money?

Does it include things like mileage from the more recent MOT's ? (I think they only started recording it recently).

Might be quite interesting, even on some relatively new stuff.
