Hi, can anyone confirm what the cambelt intervals are on the Mk6 Golf TDI models?

My understanding was the 1.6 TDI is supposed to be 200,000 miles with no specified time limit, but I'm seeing conflicting information on the 2.0 TDI. Seems to vary from 80,000 - 120,000 miles and 4/ 5 years. Cars in question are 2010/ 2011.

Cars registeted after Sep 2009, it's 5 years. I know on the 2.0 CR it's 140k miles.

The time limit is actually a VW UK recommendation and not from VW Germany as can be seen from the service booklet, whereas only a mileage limit is given.

Those more cynical than myself may say it's just to get money out of you but IMO, ir's not worth the risk.

My 2010 2.0 TDi PD book states 120k km and no mention of 5 years, unlike my previous 2006 2.0 TDi PD which stated 5yrs or 120k km, whichever occurred first.

Our 'other' car is a 2012 Touran with a CR140 engine (and missing a log book, but I have receipts).

I haven't paid a huge amount of attention to the car but it's on 56k miles and due a service. It seems difficult to find any concrete evidence on what exactly should be included at each service interval, and even harder to find consistent cambelt advice (or does it even have a chain?).

Any advice on what it'll need doing? Will a new cambelt be in order as the car has now just passed 5 years old? I come from owning TS and V6 Alfas where cambelts seem to happen every other year - or else!

It has a cambelt and VW UK recommend that it is changed every 5 years irrespective of mileage.

However, the service booklet from the factory doesn't state a time interval, only a mileage interval of 120k miles.

For peace of mind I woukd have it done along with the tensioner and water pump.

This is for US cars.

In the UK I believe it's around 4-5 years and 80k miles.

But give or take it's usually fine. Make sure waterpump is changed at same time.
