after a recent trip to le mans and panning it round the Bugatti it is obvious that the cars brakes are not up to the job,its fitted with cheapo pads,so looking to replace with something a little more purposeful, any pointers would be welcome
always been happy with performance friction pads on my other car but they give a hell of a lot of dust

PF08 or PF11 - no dust problems. I use 11 on the front & 08 rear & find it's a good combo that works on road or track.

Nick, does that give a similar bias to Rs29/14 ?

Pagid RS-29s also get good feedback although may squeel a little when cold. Ideal for track/fast road though.

PF pads (as suggested above) and PF discs up front. Standard set up (pads and discs) at rear. Good combo used by lot of people who track 996 GT3s.

Just had Alcon rotors with JZM bells fitted to the front of mine with Pagid RS29 pads and it's transformed the car. Just done the Porsche club trackday at Croft and the braking was straight/true and significantly better than standard - we were braking significantly later and harder than cars with standard set-up with no fade etc etc

It's a couple of grand (for the fronts) but if you're going to have a look at sorting your brakes, I can massively recommend this set-up

Not tried RS14 on the rear, I've always used PF on the rear. There's comparatively little rear brake bias on the 996 anyway so I doubt the choice of pads makes a huge difference to overall braking efficiency. I have 350mm Alcons on the rear & they are wearing extremely well; I've just changed pads for the first time since they went on 18 months ago. The PF11 are pretty similar to RS29 on the front except no squeal & none of that horrible red dust that the RS29 seems prone to produce. PF11 last longer on my 380mm Brembo disks than the RS29 too.

ETA: I've seen a peak of 1.7g on my datalogger under braking on slicks with the PF11 / 380mm Brembo combo & I still don't get into the ABS. ABS is more of a problem with cold brakes on the road tbh.
