GT cars - affordable?
Discussion
Seems like a Continental GT or a GTR or a 911 (not strictly a grand tourer) can be had for £25/£30k.
Does this make them affordable... they are a 2+2 so surely a viable weekend and away day car even with a couple youngish kids in the back seats?
Particularly like the idea of the Bentley...

So what if the owner before that was playing the same game...and the one before them and the one before them? Someone will be holding the grenade when it goes bang...
Okay, if you try it once then revert to driving Honda Accords and don't look back, maybe the odds will be in your favour that you don't get your fingers burnt...is that the plan or, having 'won' once, might you be tempted to have another crack? Because the more times you play, the greater the chance you'll get caught out at some stage.
Of course, if you could still be philosophical about it if worst came to worst - shrug your shoulders, take the £X,000 hit and say "well at least I did it when I had the chance" and not lose too much sleep over it - then all well and good.
Either way, hope you come to the right decision for you

Problem is that when a £75,000 BMW 6 series or similar drops to £6000, it's still a £75,000 car to service.
Sadly, people who tend to buy cars at this level aren't the same people who can (usually) afford to service them properly. Still, great way to go bankrupt.
Nah - standard servicing on my 650 is very reasonable (given that it's a BMW, and so never going to be cheap!). Tyres, pads, etc. aren't exactly a bargain, but that's what you get with big wheels, and they're not something you buy every day...Sadly, people who tend to buy cars at this level aren't the same people who can (usually) afford to service them properly. Have been pondering the Bently GT as the next car. Think it'd be fine (horrible of fuel, mind!) if nothing broke. The big question is - how often do things break or wear out? If it's no more often than any other car, then I imagine they shouldn't be too worrying if you've got 1-2k stuck away for a rainy day.

Quite possibly, but how often do injectors fail? Normal running costs and wear and tear items would be OK I imagine. Clearly if something more major goes there's an issue, but how often does that happen in any car? Can't think why the GT should be any less reliable than anything else, but maybe I'm being overly optimistic!
I'd say in the case of the bentley it's built by craftsmen and has german engineering behind it, so should be fairly solid, all the components are designed to hurl 2. Something tonnes at over 200 miles per hour and how often do the components get subjected to anything over 100??? As per usual if it's a couple of owners with a full history and a no expense spared car then it's a safe bet that all will be ok. If it's a 10 owner 10 year old car with 5 oil changes I'd be worried.
Worst case buy a decent warranty...

Wouldnt touch the bentley outside of warranty myself. A db9 would cost less to run
