You know when you;re sat at home, a bit bored, and have a search/wander around the internet? I wondered how much a touring car would cost, and any other racecar for that matter.

Turns out Lea Wood is selling last years BTCC car for £37 grand.

Or what about a Nostalgic Alfa for £18k. (Im not sure if it's the same model, but i seem to recall one doing many barrel rolls in the BTCC in the 90's)

Or if you've got big money, 125k euros for a modern WTCC car.

I seem to recall Rob Collards BTCC 3-series was up for sale for about £40k last year when they switched to the 1-series.

That's gotta be more fun than shelling out £50 grand on an M3 or something hasn't it?

If it was a 75 you remember in the BTCC then it would have been a Turbo Evoluzione, a much simpler device than the Turbo IMSA. The Evo did without a lot of the trick suspension and brakes. Quite a decent car but with an 8V 1.8 it was never going to beat the 16v 2 litre Sierra, even assuming that Alfa wasn't bankrupt (again) when they designed it.

Still, they did give us the name "Evo" in 1987, long before Lancia and Mitsubishi did.

Love to have something like a Caparo T1 to do the weekly shopping.

I'd have to send the shopping home in a taxi ofcourse, but a small price to pay. Now if someone on PH has a Caparo T1 going spare.........

Race car as a daily? You'd be sick of it after 3 days.

I'd wager less. It's a bugger driving mine at anything less than flat out.

Constantly cold brakes = no stopping power
No ABS or Brake Servo Assistance
No Power steering
Bone shattering ride
NOISE
Having to negotiate the cage to get in/out
Strapping into the harness
No Airconditioner

They're pretty big things to not have in a daily runaround... as an aside GT3's have unassisted brakes?

Whilst a GT3 is a very sharp tool and often called a race car for the road, it's still some way off a proper race car!

Noise - you'd be deaf after 5mins if you took a racer down the motorway without a helmet. Something you could do easily in a gt3.

Clutch / brakes - try negotiating an M25 jam with an on or off clutch and no brakes.

Whilst a gt3 is a road car turned up to 11, the only things you can really tick off that list are harness and cage.

But yes op I'm with you. If money was no object I'd like to think id buy a racer for the track. Touring car looks awesome fun!

A GT3 is not a racing car IMO. A Caterham is a lot louder inside and requires earplugs but even that would be a lot quieter than a proper racer..

Not so much highly strung as thrashed hard all the time with little mercy, Mine has a stock engine and gearbox, although the clutch is binary and very heavily sprung.

I'm just wondering, of course, if a older F1 or F3000 car could be converted for the road. Completely insane of course, but it would be fun to watch the reaction of the public. Right, now where's my socket set ?
