oil leaks after service

Hi guys, pulled the car out the garage yesterday to notice that I have some oil leaked out of it, not massive but a fair amount. The car has just had a 12 k service a couple of weeks ago and before that would only ever drop a tiny tiny amount now and again. Whilst in for service they told me I has a leak from the sump and that it had a gasket fitted, which they would remove and replace with the correct sealant instead, now obviously without getting under the car I can't be sure where it is coming from yet, but they may be the area of confirm.
Obviously I will ring the guys that serviced it and speak to them and no doubt they will look at it for me, but the main reason for the post was that I noticed on the receipt that they used 10/40 oil in there and I swear I have read on here that people have had thin oil leak everywhere and cured it by filling with thicker stuff?

If you have a leak, you have a leak.

I would check that the oil filter is tight and correctly fitted.

Get under and check from where it's coming from or return it ASAP.

Mine had nothing but Mobil 1 in it for the first 100k miles. Never leaked a drop. It always used a bit of oil, but the floor was always dry underneath.
I'm not making a recommendation on the oil you should use, just agreeing with Peter really.

Oil viscosity got nothing to do with it you have a leak take it back

If it's had a service, and they've done the sump, it's worth checking the sump plug, the front and rear two bolts of the sump (need to be sealed), sump gasket and the oil filter seal. All potential leak areas.

I recommend that you place a clean piece of cardboard underneath after being driven. Then, before you use it again, look underneath the car with a torch and see if you can identify where the drips are coming from.

Sump probably needs doing again. Always used 10/40 in all my Tivs, no leaks.
