Our neighbours have disappeared on holiday or somewhere else for at least the last week now. They have someone come round occasionally to feed the dog and let it out, however, when nobody is present the dog is almost constantly howling and whining. This is disturbing a number of neighbours including myself. I don't think this is acceptable to leave the dog like this when it's clearly in distress but we're not sure if there's anything that we can do about it. Does anybody have any useful advice/recommendations they can offer please?

The owners of the dog are on holiday/away somewhere. A note has already been left by the other neighbours asking the temporary carers to contact us about the matter. It appears to have fallen on deaf ears or simply that they can't do anything about it.

The bottom line is that we're all fed up with this irresponsible bullst.

Call RSPCA - one of their inspectors can appraise the situation and be there when the "feeder" arrives.

The RSPCA are unlikely to intervene if the dog is secured and has access to fresh water/food.

You must be a retard, so leaving the dog in distress, which in turn is disrupting a lot of people who have no connection to the dog, yet have to put up with it, you don't see how that is irresponsible?

Let me guess, you're one of those "when my dog barks, it doesn't disturb anyone else" bunch.

Edit: Im not a great lover of dogs, but even I would never leave one in distress, I would make sure it was looked after, and an added bonus would be I then wouldn't be disturbed by it. I think the RSPCA should be involved, or if you can catch the person "caring" for it as they enter the house and have a chat about it. If the dog is in a really unhappy state it shouldnt be left that way.

See Iklwa's post. That covers it off.

How can anyone think this is acceptable? I'd contact the RSPCA anyway and see what they say, I doubt they'd do anything in the short term if the dog is fed and watered but they may pay your neighbour a visit later. You could also contact the council, they'll have a noise pollution dept and may do something, I know of people who have had letters from them over barking dogs, you could even try the local dog warden and ask his opinion. Not much you can do in the short term but you may prevent a similar occurrence in the future. You could also tell your neighbour about kennels that are dotted around the country for when they go away.

Really? You're obviously a retard.
