European Breakdown Insurance

I am about to pick a car up from Germany and drive it back . Does anyone know where I could get breakdown and recovery insurance for the journey back to England ?

I've signed up with MSM this yr, annual cover £57 on a 20yr old MB. I tried ADAC but they recommended I use a UK company.

Yup - never really understood the ADAC thing for UK residents. My experience of Euro breakdown cover is that whoever you go with uses one of the local breakdown services outwith their own territory anyway, so it is more important to have someone competent in the UK co-ordinating things.

I had trouble getting hold of them by phone so sent an email this was my reply.

"thank you for your message and interest in joining ADAC.

Our phone number 0800 5 10 11 12 doesn't work from foreign countries. You can reach us under the phone number 0049 89 76 76 66 32.

In view of the above, would you please verify whether a local organisation offers a product that better suits your needs."

I just figured if I was having problems communicating at this stage what would happen if I needed to use them.

A lot of companies offering Euro cover want the policy established 7-10 days in advance of your trip. I found that out the hard way a few weeks ago!

I recently went over to France, so went on money supermarket and did a quick comparison, ended up with swift cover. Didn't need to use it but glad I had it

EuroTunnel. Sells AA European cover under their own brand. Cheaper than AA direct, even if you are an AA member. Same T+C as the AA cover

Annual policy from http://www.vehicle-rescue.com/ was cheaper then extending my AA cover for 30 days; no-brainer!

Never had to use them so cannot comment on efficiency though.

I got mine free with Classic Line Insurance but its the same policy as the one Adrian Flux sell which is great, had to use it a couple of times unfortunately but they were great.

This is the outift I've used in the past. AFAICR they are a broker only and use Europ Assistance to handle the actual service. Europ Assistance are probably the biggest operation of this type in Europe.

I must say, I think the bashing the OP is being given is totally out of order and not necessary at all.

Most cars these days don't come with a spare wheel - a lot of cars don't have the interior space to take a spare (or the real wheel if the spare needed to go on). Take motorbikes for example.

I don't see what the issue is.

I take out RAC cover before I travel into Europe. It's not expensive and is an added peace of mind.

I am going with LV after, the RAC and other breakdown company's would not do a combine policy as one.

Also another reason, the RAC wanted £250 should I claim and need my car and I bought back to the U/K first.



I can now get combine cover for Europe & U/K with LV as one price.
