Just a quick one.
Quick background information, I am 22 and have been driving for four years.
I have just tried to insure my other half who is currently learning to drive my 55 plate Renault clio 1.2.

My insurance company sent me back a surprisingly good quote of £64.53 to insure her until my next renewal (mid-April). I rang to query this quote and the woman backed it up adamantly, I made sure to ask if this was per month or an overall fee, she replied that it was all the extra money I would pay until renewal. So, I agreed to pay it, thinking how amazing my insurance company was and merrily went to work.

Returned tonight to find a confirmation email for £369.46

Im looking between the quote email and the confirmation email trying to figure out where I went wrong.

Besides ringing up and cancelling it, do I have a leg to stand on trying to make them honour the written and verbal quotes I have?

I would think so if you have the quote or they recorded the call.

If you phoned and paid the £64 then surely that's a done deal? If not, then it seems they've now given their accurate quotation and you're stuck with it.

Your call would have been recorded. Just ask to speak to the Head of the Dept concerned tomorrow, explain the position and give them the opportunity to investigate things.

Most Companies are so frightened/concerned as to any negative publicity so it's very much in their interests to find in your favour.

Hope it works out in your favour.

My son was able to add his girlfriend, who was a learner driver, for a similar sum, about £50.

But when she passed her test the figure went up, a lot, I recall it was about £300 for the remaining 4 months of his policy.

Are you on a monthly payment plan? with just under 6 months left to run this year? that would roughly add up to it being per month

You don't pay £305~ for the year usually, do you? Perhaps the quote is just a reiteration of the entire contract term?

I pay about £550 at the moment, paying monthly just over £45. So I dont see where the mix up could be. I definitely remember repeating it back to her "So that's the full amount I pay until my renewal?" Will ring shortly and get back to you on how it pans out

Not in my experience. As more companies fall under one huge umbrella then customers are merely numbers and most of them could not give a f***.

Is the figure not your monthly installments plus the extra premium (including interest?)

without knowing the APR your paying, it seems to work out almost exact.. but just give them a call, the call will be recorded if you need to push but in all honesty they will probably be able to explain exactly what they mean / meant by the higher figure (almost certain it will be monthlys plus ep plus interest for the Ep)

Good Luck

Just rang.

Feeling like a major idiot now. To quote the email 'As a result of this change a balance of £369.46 is due' was told that this is what is left of my policy plus the £65 to add another driver.

Although the wording is a little dubious, I think I'm gonna go sit under a rock somewhere...
