Before someone else takes it back to 1960 and we start arguing the merits of Ford Anglias, Minis and Morris Minors. For the record, my pick would be a Jaguar MkII, no question!

Let's fast forward to 2000. Not an era I remember particularly fondly because the three cars that I owned from that era were all crap (at least reliability wise)! But thinking about it, there is quite a decent selection for all tastes.

Personally, I'm torn between a B5 RS4

or an E39 M5

Generally I favour an estate or hatchback over a saloon and favour 4WD too but the E39 M5 package is just so right. The perfect blend of the involvement and compactness of the earlier cars and the speed and power of the newer M5s.

So, what will it be? As in the 1990, 1980 and 1970 thread, it will arrive box fresh in 2014. Thanks, these threads have been a lot of fun! smile

are you talking 2000 specifically or the 00s decade?
because you do know that the average person's daily drive actually is from the 00s right?

Year 2000, as in 14 year old cars.
E46 M3 for me, sapphire black with light yellow leather.
Ta, just leave it parked around the back would you.

My dad had a 2000 E46 330i touring with all the trimmings. Silver with black leather. I'd have that. It was a true 150mph car and had good sleeper appeal in SE guise.

Rover 25 DI diesel. It IS my DD from 2000, which I bought to relieve the strain on my DD from 1990 (Porsche 944 Turbo), which is currently receiving specialist care.

Yes, 2000 specifically. Stuntman Mike, didn't the E46 M3 not come out until 2001?

I had a DD from 2000. It was the PH favourite, an Audi A4 TDI Avante.

I agree, it has to be the B5 RS4 for me, ideally de-badged and de-chrome-mirrored like the one below. Plus a few spare sets of wheels by all accounts

I remember reading a story back when Car Mag took one on the Gumball, and driving through some area in Eastern Europe the 380bhp got them out of a tricky situation involving some local gangsters in a blacked-out S-Class

I'm wavering again! The B5 RS4 is a much rarer car than the M5 and I love the B5 Avant shape (still looks really fresh). This one looks subtle and purposeful just like an RS Audi should too (not like the blinged-up RSs of today).

I still prefer estates too. 99% of the time a saloon is fine but I had to pick up a kid's flat pack table and chairs yesterday and just couldn't get it in my largeish saloon. I folded the seats down but it was too big to fit through the rear door aperture, so I tried to get it through the boot but the combination of a too high load lip, too low rear bulkhead and the slope on the rear seats when folded being too steep (the seat base doesn't flip up) meant that I couldn't get it in, even though the boot is pretty big and it would probably have fitted in the boot with the seats up! I drove home (fortunately not far) with the bootlid up and it sticking out the boot. So frustrating, because I could even have easily popped it in the back of my wife's old Fiat 500 with the seats down!

Isn't 2000 so recent that if you wanted any of the cars made then as a DD you could go out and buy one today for 3/5ths of fk all? So to the guy suggesting a Mercedes CL, I call your bluff!

True but probably with 100,000 miles on the clock and a big list of potential problems!

A mk1 Focus would be my choice.

A boring choice, or is it? IMO, they pretty much re-wrote the rule book as far as handling and car design were concerned.

And I'm a massive BMW fan, but even I would go for the RS4 I think (I'm still actually on the fence between the E34 M5 3.8 and the RS2 though - we need one of these great threads for 1995 too wink)

I'm surprised there isn't more enthusiasm for cars from 2000 (or is PH bored with this style of thread)! Provided you avoid the crappy ones that I bought (Golf, C-Class, Grand Cherokee), there's something pretty special for everyone!

Stunning coupes

Luxury

Lightweight sports cars

Super fast rally reps

and possibly two of the best and most focussed front wheel drivers ever!
