I was just wondering if your PHTV video over Applecross was with the Sony camcorder you got.

My idea for getting a Panasonic bit the dust when I realised it didn't have an AV in. That left me with a Canon (stories of motor noise) and a Sony (not my favorite make, but up there with bang for bucks apparently).

I was reading and old post and thought I'd have a look through your vids and see what it was like.
Are you still happy with it? Are there any things you would like it to have/do but doesn't? Would you recommend it for that price range?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

The Scottish vid was shot with another video camera, hand held in the passenger seat by my old man
All the bullet cam vids use the Sony HC30E.
My previous camera didn't have the AV IN function necassary for bullet cam use so I upgraded to a better DVC.
I believe the HC30 has now been replaced by a newer HC40 model ?
As well as AV IN the Sony has an Image Stabiliser function which cuts down on camera shake and also a nifty night shooting function.
It's compact and has lots of accessories. I've just purchased a larger battery and can now film for 7 hours sold (changing tapes obviously). So for Eurohoon next year, I'll just stock up on tapes and keep it running

It's a great camera and I can highly recomend it.

cheers

Shady

Thanks for that. I'll check out some of the Driver cam vids on PHTV and see what it's like.

I saw the HC40 but I couldn't see much difference between the two except the price. I'll have a closer look later.

Forgot to ask, does it have a wireless remote or can you use a cable type remote?

Cheers

The HC40 isn't a replacement, it's the next model up.

The only difference is that it has a 1 megapixel ccd instead of the 800,000 pixel, and has a 16:9 mode

I have the HC40, you can see some sample video somewhere. I'll give you a link in a minute when I find it.

Thanks for the help and vids guys.

I've just ordered an HC40 and rfconcepts bullet cam.
Seems that the Sonys' are the best bet for this price range.

I figured for the extra few quid I should get the 40 instead of the 30 and try and 'futureproof' myself for a few extra months before upgraditis sets in.

Cheers
Andy

a couple of tips for the bullet cam.

If you are out on a cold day and then stop, the heat from the engine will often mist up the bullet (if the bullet is mounted near enough) - so you may have to unscrew the lens mount and wipe it clean.

Also, if you are using for track days, the glass mounted at the front of the bullet will get chipped. RF sell replacement glass (pi55 cheap) - get a few in, you'll need them.
