What car? £3k budget for driving holiday to Norway

Hi all.

Me and the other half are planning a driving holiday to Norway shortly and i've allowed a £3k -£3.5K budget for a suitable car. Ideally I want it to be petrol with some power and maybe a decent sized engine (v6, straight 6 or maybe a v8) and reliable. It needs to be comfy but also fun (I don't necessarily need a barge, just something with 4 doors thats not going to be back breaking on a long trip). Fuel consumption isn't particularly important - I'd rather enjoy the driving than worry about fuel consumption.

First thoughts are;
MK3 Golf vr6
Honda Accord Type r
BMW 540i
A v6 Alfa maybe?

Mondeo ST220 - comfortable, nippy, nice noise. Plenty of money left for petrol!

You can get one of these (admittedly high mileage) within your 3.5k budget. A 11 or 12 year old Jaguar XJ6, X350 variant:

Norway, yes. ETA - Denmark, yes (been done twice and the only country I've been done for speeding in. Horrible mobile cameras, slow down for Mercedes Vaneos in verges/hard shoulders). Treat Sweden as your own personal autobahn though. Slow down near Falkenberg on the E6 (checkpoint) and between Gothenburg and Strömstad (rolling checkpoints, but be prepared for Norwegians doing 120+).

Remember that the standard speed limit is 80km/h, and I think only 100km/h on dual carriageways and motorways. Maybe comfort over power?
