Windscreen repair affect no claims?
Discussion
Got a chip the size of my fingertip in my windscreen which I'm sure will be repairable... I read somewhere that if its smaller than the diameter of a £2 coin its usually fixable. Now im insured fully comp with Elephant and was wondering whether claiming for repair and paying the £25 excess they charge for windscreen repairs will affect my no claims bonus? Im currently on 4 years and dont want to risk losing it as I will be able to protect it come renewal in october... Any help anyone please?
If it's a repair no if it's a replacement windows then my policy says that I won't earn a year but won't lose anything. I was on 5years protected no claims and my window got a huge crack and was a complete replacement just got my renewal through and it's now at 4 years?? So need to chase that up!!
Well my own experience was that I had a side window vandalised whilst on 6 points
I just didnt want the hassle of a potential increase in premium and have a suspicion that even calling to ask about how it will play out wouldnt have been in my favour (I accept a bit of tin foil hat mentality here LOL)
The usual windscreen people wanted exactly the same as a main dealer to repair it
My tame indy bought the glass from the same dealer and did the whole job for 60% of the cost all in parts and labour
Hope that helps
Glass claims won't generally affect your renewal price, they certainly won't affect your NCB, but some insurers may decide not to quote for you.
I had 3 glass claims on my old Fiesta ST thanks to vandals trying to steal things from it (Driver's side twice, passenger once...).
I was working for a well known comparison site at the time and could see how the ratings were working. The prices didn't go up, but some insurers have policies in place to not quote for any claims whatsoever. Most prices didn't change, but it did mean I had less choice of insurers (though they were generally the non-competitive quotes that didn't come back anyway, so it didn't make much difference).

That sounds okay then, because all I do each year is get a quote off admiral thats cheaper and then ring elephant and they always match it because its their sister company. No tin foil hat required. If it is anything like home insurance it would have been logged. I spoke with my then home insurer nearly five years ago just to ask what the claim procedure would be should I need to claim for a leaking shower. As it turned out the leak wasn't in the wall itself and just required the shower unit sorting so no claim required. Except that this enquiry was logged and has stayed on the record for five years and does affect my premium slightly. Why all the obsession over NCB? Insurance companies have really gotten their punter in knots haven't they. They sell you a service then come up with a means of scaring the crap out of you to the point where you never want to use the service you have bought. People seem to completely forget the NCD is a discount applied to your base premium. This premium can be anything they want it to be. What's more £1000-50% or £500-0%?
If you get it repaired by a proper repair expert you will probably end up paying an extra £10-15. Is it really worth the bother and risk?

Pray your windscreen doesn't crack whilst insured with Admiral/Elephant.

Admiral are paying their preferred supplier an average invoice value of about 82-quid. If it's a repair, the PH pays 25, and for a replacement: 75 towards that claim (it's still a claim).
Cue: some more adverts about how there's never a good time to have a chipped windscreen.
