Clutch life

My griff has now done at least 35k in the last 3 years, inc the odd track day or 20 , I'm assuming that the clutch was changed shortly before i bought the car, but what sort of life should i expect from a clutch?

As far as I am aware my car has the original clutch, 92 J 4.0ltr. It's now done 63k and no sign of a problem......and no, I don't drive like a pansie with very soft slippers and bunions.

Mine ('99 Chra 500) is still on original clutch at 72000 miles inc 5 track days and 2 drift days.

Hydraulic pipe has broken twice where it meets the slave cylinder, however.

Depends which one was fitted...
Who is driving and their driving style...
Whether the clutch pedal is used as a foot rest....

From what is being said there are a lot of high mileage cars out there with original clutches.
Mines at about 65k and could still be on it's original clutch, i just find it amasing that they last so long.

Shortest I know was 800 miles (Richard Thorpe's NOS'd Griff 500)... and as you say some cars reach many Ks on the original clutch.

Just had a full (5 litre plate/cover/bearing/arm) clutch in my 4.3 at just under 60,000 miles.

The previous owner also replaced the clutch about 7,000 miles ago




with a recon Range Rover clutch - I've got the receipt - for a staggering £80

Think a proper TVR-spec clutch will last forever. Here's hoping anyway

I know of a 138000 mile 4.0 with the original clutch!

mine done about 28 k before going, but that wasnt the clutches fault. an oil seal broke pi33ing oil all oover the clutch

Hmm well the car will have it's mega aero dynamic hard roof by then!!

Oh and the bottle will be full and the tyres almost empty!

I did it with full tyres, roof down and a massive hang over and still got an alright time!
(Didnt help the hangover though so only had 2 goes!).

Got a 13.72, or was it 13.7?
I can't remember now, I have the cards somewhere, probably.
Terminal speed was 110MPH.
Wheelspin off the line was huge and highly unprofessional!

I read in Sprint that one of the TVR main dealers could not recall having changed a Griff clutch that had worn out. They said they had change a couple that had failed due to oil contamination...

Its July IIRC mate - so you'll just have to swap the Nos system from the Griff to the Cerb. Let the battle of the Cerberas begin...

I'll be keeping the Griff though, the has been too much done to it to now for me to get any money back on her, and it's soooo much fun these days.

Just applying for a weekend pass with the Mrs!!
