Massive photographs in the Supercars spotted thread

I use the big pages, and am now unable to get into the Supercars spotted thread because it just freezes my Safari browser. I've reported which I think is the offending post to a Mod but assume it's a "no, it's just you" kind of problem.
I assume there is now way of limiting image size or other preventative measure because it's a regular occurance.

We have always relied on the user to size their images appropriately for the forums if they are including them from external sources.
As we control the display code for any image tag added to the forums we can look at how we could put a max value on the image when it is displayed. This does pose a few issues:
a) the forums fit the screen of the user, so some users with large screens can see the big images (ok not 6000px), so what size we set that max at.
b) it won't affect the download size of the image as that will still be whatever size 6000px is, so it wouldn't speed up the page.
Though as we are building on the mobile skin for the forums, this is something we will look at how we handle.
