Air Filter temperature

fairly random question but what kind of temperatures would the metal above the air filter on an old chevvy engine like this get to?

would it be too hot to touch?

The top shouldnt get that hot, as it is seperated from the engine by a very poorly condutcotr of heat.

That being said, lightly touch it with the back of your hand before diving in and grasping it

I would suggest it would be warmer than you would want to touch (as most metal items under the bonnet).
