Hi all
Newbie here and already looking for help ;-)I tried posting in the 'Law' section, but it banned me as I'm a new member (sorry).

I’ve got a Subaru Impreza that’s been off-road for 4 years, and I can finally afford to get it up and running. I’ve got it booked in to a garage specialising in performance cars, and I have booked it in for an overhaul/service/MOT in September. I’m having it collected so I’m not driving it anywhere until it’s been looked at.

So far, so good… but I am a bit confused about what date I should insure it from. I’ve rung DVLA and there doesn’t seem to be a problem having it insured while it’s still got the SORN on it. My plan was to insure it from the day it’s being picked up by the garage, so it’s covered from whenever the MOT is done (and the road tax, obv).

Does this sound like a sensible plan? Nobody seems to be able to give me a clear answer on this.
Any advice/help much appreciated!!

Welcome to the mad house wink , I've just been through the unsorning/MOT/taxing thing myself (loads of fun when you find out you need sills welding from the first MOT run). I can't see any problems with what you're proposing, possibly insure it for the day before the MOT, that way come next year you've got a bit of wiggle room and you're not loading yourself with having bits to do all over the place come next year.

Good luck though.

Hi
Thanks so much for your reply! I think your suggestion of the day before is a good idea- the DVLA told me to just make sure that the insurance company were aware of what was happening, so it all sounds fine. All the arranging has taken ages- it reminds me of having an exotic pet that needs special care and attention :-)
Good luck with your car... I can't wait to get mine up and running!!

No problems, mines now back on the road after a year and a half (three months of which was down to trying to find one part to complete the engine rebuild). I hope when you finally get the old girl back (and hopefully without too many shocks) she'll put as big a smile on your face as my old 200 Coupe does on mine.

You do realise we'll want pic's when she's back on the road preferably with some Birds custard in there (standard proof of original pic around here better than a watermark biggrin ).

Thanks :-)
UPDATE: I have spent what feels like the entire week on the phone talking about my car (didn't think that I would get tired of talking about it, but it's happened) and she's now insured- I took your advice and covered it from the day before it's due in the garage. She's booked in for the 8th Sept, so not long now, so pics will follow soon.
PS What is the custard thing- is it a forum joke???
ETA: glad to hear yours is on the road successfully!!

The custard thing is the forums way of proof sort of thing (rare car, unlikely combo of driver/car, etc...), can get quite amusing at times, with Jason Plato (he of BTCC fame) posting once. Good luck, nothing like anticipation.

Hi all
SORRY I haven't updated for so long... my car was in the garage for a few months... but I'VE GOT HER BACK!!!!!!
I had her sorted out by Indigo GT in Tredegar (S Wales) and I can't recommend them more highly. I've been taking her out over the past few days, getting used to her, and I am so delighted. This is my first Subaru and it was even better than I thought.
Pics to follow... am I supposed to actually be in the pic with the custard and the car?

Good to hear that she's back on the road. Doesn't matter about the custard (it's a site related on going joke that's used for proof sort of thing), bonny pics of a well sorted car on the other hand is generally all that's required, get snapping wink .

No just a packet or tin of custard power balanced somewhere on the car would be fine...

Only have to do this though if you really feel need to pander to forum peer pressure.

ETA; Damn beaten to it, so I will add which model Impreza is it?

Oh, peer pressure is fine... I will have to get out after xmas and find some custard.
She's a 2001 Impreza WRX (bug-eye)... I've had quite a bit of work done on her, but I was lucky in that she's in good overall condition for her age. I just had her brought back to life as close as possible to the original spec.. but of course I think she's beautiful and the best car ever biggrin
Now I just have to think of a name...
