RE: Is 30 speeding points in a week a record?
Thursday 16th December 2004
Thirty points in a week has to be some kind if record. A fleet driver, who has asked not to be named, clocked up over 30 points on his driving licence in one week as he travelled to and from work, according to Fleet News.
Is 30 speeding points in a week a record?
Man thought no flash meant the camera wasn't working

He passed a speed camera in road works at over the posted 40mph limit and, because it didn’t flash, he assumed it wasn’t working. Alas, he repeated the journey at least daily over the course of a full week before the penalty notices started arriving.
His manager, who also asked not to be named, said that, "He is appealing against the points because he thought cameras are supposed to flash. But it was a digital camera and caught him every time he sped past it."

Okay, for the record I do not agree with scamereas, they are the Devil's own invention.
things.
That said, Sorry but unless he got done for less than 45mph each time he had it coming.
30mph or lower by schools, etc, at the correct times of the day and 40mph in ACTIVE roadworks is fair enough.
I for one am feed up with slowing down from a nice 85ish cruise to 40 for these only to be overtaken by the numpties I passed a few mins earlier who are still doing the 55mph in lane 2 they were before the roadworks!!!

Does giving this guy 30 points, fines and banning him serve any purpose other than one of revenue raising?
Will it improve safety?
Will it reduce accidents or make people more aware?
Plank he may be, but its a frigging joke, the whole policy on road safety in this country is a frigging joke.

Firstly, if it costs him his job it certainly will be economically counter productive.
I read in AutoExpress this week that a Mathmetician has calculated that we will all each be banned on average every 15yrs due to the amount of these cameras everywhere.
I got flashed last week - 35 in a 30 late at night. And they had recently reduced the speed limit from 40 without telling anyone.
I am being made into an enemy of the state, and will now be spending £800 to buy a Road Angel each for the missus and I in order to defend ourselves against a greedy and misguided government.
2 points...
Firstly, he was willing to drive past the camera at over the speed limit the first time to see if it was working.
Secondly, having reached the (wrong) conclusion that it wasn't working, he still drove at over the speed limit.
Evidence that speed camera's are not a deterent

Agreed!!
Things wrong:
1. Were the roadworks "normal"? i.e. nothing going on and nobody about - if so, it stinks!!
2. 40mph in roadworks IMHO also stinks, what was wrong with 50mph?
3. Point already made, in the "old" days, a cop would have been there to remind him why the (50mph) limit was in force to protect all the workers (which also in the "old" days would have actually have been there). Said cop would have also had the opportunity to exercise discretion whether or not he actually deserved to get nicked! (if he was doing 50mph on an empty motorway for example, I think he didn't!) This is clearly safer (which is supposed to be the goal
) than letting the guy merrily carry on oblivious....
Question, has anybody EVER seen roadworks on the continent that didn't have people working on them at any time of the day? My experience of France, Belguim and Germany is, they work round the clock until they are finished. Makes sense, of course, but isn't the cheapest way to do it and of course, the British Government is strapped for cash with the motorist only bringing in £40billion a year....awwrrrr....
Matt.

Does that mean they didn't change the speed limit signs or you just expected someone to stand down the road and tell you the limit had changed
Er...no. I don't expect anyone "to stand down the road and tell me the speed limit has changed". That's a pretty stupid remark.
It would be nice though if they put up some large signs rather than a couple of tiny 30 signs on a couple of lamp posts.
It's only a metter of time before the do gooding, looney left, don't step on that hedgehog, vegetarian, tree hugging nutters realise that they've all been duped by this government into supporting an authoritarian, bully boy communist state that seeks to reward lazy good for nothing dole scum with the hard earned tax collected from ordinary people going about their everyday life. Only they need more and more money each year, thus we have the camera plague.
The figures do NOT support a drop in road deaths per annum since cameras were introduced. More people die in our hospitals from MRSA or 'dirty hand' disease. But the government cant get any money from that, no doubt if they could there'd be cameras on every bar of soap!!
Poor bloke I say!! On with the revolution!!!!!

then you haven't seen Switzerland. miles and miles and more miles of cones, and not a person to be seen.
Italy is just as bad, but at least the road works are a little shorter.

Unless the 30 mph is on a road that is preceeded by a higher limit, they don't have to put any signs up as 30 would be the limit for a road without signs. I must admit that a couple of roads on my regular journeys have had the limits reduced and there have been tvery large warning boards put up for a few weeks after the changes.
