I'm in the market for my first boxster and have found one which tempts me.. However, not knowing much about these vehicles I'm looking for help!

Firstly, the car is an 06' plate boxster S with 65k on the clock.
The car was first serviced in 08' at 33k miles, is this not a long time for the first service? Is there no running in service required?
I have been told that the rear disks and pads are roughly 60% worn. How much are these to replace and fit?
The last advisories on last years MOT were that indicator bulbs were loosing colour, rear disks slightly pitted and a slight coolant leak near the front near side wheel. The owner says he took it off, gave the metal connections a clean and reconnected it and hasn't leaked since. Is this something major to worry about?
And finally the price is 12995.

Is there anything else I need to look out for and be wary of with these cars at the higher mileage?

B.

There isn't a running in service but 33k is way over what it should be (I'm not sure on an '06 987.1 but <20k definitely or 2 years). I agree you should walk away.

As an important aside, it sounds like you are something of a Porsche newbie (or almost newbie!) so you should be aware of a number of potential issues/costs with models including the one you are looking at. Google and search for info on Bore Scoring, IMS and RMS failures. It can be scary at first so keep it in perspective - these are fantastic cars but the potential costs of running them can mean that pitted discs etc could be a relatively minor expense compared to your other exposures.

See http://www.hartech.org/porsche_996_997_Boxster_fre...

As a shortcut to buying, http://www.911virgin.com/porschesforsale/ often get good reviews and is worth keeping your eye on. [Absolutely no connection to me FYI -.]

Happy hunting!

You would be looking at around £400 for rear discs and pads through an indy. The coolant leak could be the sign of a radiator on the way out as these don't last much longer than about 7 years, and if one is going its likely the other is close to the end of its life as well.

As above, though, I personally would leave it alone with that service record.

Buy from one of the respected Indy's on here if you can and you're new to Porsche

Good point cmouse - it wasn't clear that my comments were general points around the model rather than specifically the 2006 model. All general reading to help the OP get to know the model before be committing the cash.

I totally disagree. Don't walk away, run! Like the wind.
