Second attempt this weekend to climb the fearsome Aonach Eagach - the 'narrowest ridge in the UK', after last weekend's attempt was written off for bad weather (after a night camping in preparation!)

This time was different. Set off on the Saturday morning, absolutely racing up to Glencoe/Fort William to meet a friend who was travelling via bus and ferry from Kilchoan (on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, see Google Maps). He was ETA 10am. I set off at 8am, and it all felt rather like a Top Gear public transport vs. fast car race!

Anyway, I picked him up, drove down to the car park, and we got cracking.

The climb runs roughly from Jimmy Saville's old house in the east of the glen along the ridge to the south of the glen, then down the rather precarious scree slopes leading to the Clachaig pub, and or Glencoe village. The photos are more or less in order.

Then the weather turned... Bad...

But it was nice again by the time we were down (45 mins or so later)!

Twenty two pics and only two include the Corvette in the title?

I have to confess I take so many photos of the car, sometimes I think better to cut down on the number I post! This just happened to be one of those days that I didn't take so many of the car. Hence General Gassing rather than the Vette section I suppose.

Here's a few to tide you over. I admit they're not from the same day - see above excuse!

Fantastic pics. How great to have a day like that and finish it with a drive home in your Corvette. smile

What is the location of the car park, please?

Yeah, it was absolutely amazing. And the Vette really is a brilliant drive.

There are a few car parks you can start the climb from. This was our one:

As you look west toward Glencoe, the Three Sisters are on your left, and the Aonach Eagach ridge is on your right. The ridge is really too high up to understand from the ground though - it just looks like a big hill. What an amazing view from the top though.

Great pictures. Great car. I'm envious. Fantastic ridge walk - I did that a few years ago. Started off in thick fog and climbed out into bright sunshine and we were above a blanket of cloud all day with the peak tops jutting out of it. Not a place for vertigo sufferers hehe

Good work! Did it in the snow back in 1997, pretty scary / committing route :-)

Shhhhhh, you're letting the world know how spectacular Scotland is. They'll all be up there noo.

Cracking pics. I'm moving to North-west Scotland in a few weeks and these pics make me want to bring the moving date forward. It truly is epic up there. Like a mini New Zealand.

We're all going. I have plans afoot to move from North Yorks to Craobh Haven....just a few miles south of Oban. It's a stunning part of the world, let alone the UK.
Skyedriver..A hoose on Skye ?? Now that I'm envious of. You literally have the best of both worlds. smile

That's my local patch. Never completed the Aonach Eagach, always lost my bottle and turned back. Took a tumble a couple of weeks ago which has dented my confidence for now (moreso due to my boss being on the Glencoe MRT)

Lived on Skye for 5 years before moving to N Yorks for employment etc, we were up there last week, feeding the midgies and pulling weeds.
Interesting as my has a fancy for Oban, more there to do, more job opportunities and less midgies.
We called in on Craobh Haven earlier in the year on a "recce tour" of the area. Coffee at the pub there. Wifes preference is North Connel a few mile north of Oban.

I just wonder what there is in the way of motor sport there or decent music venues. There are other PHers in Oban though.
So what are your plans?

Great pics. Beautiful part of the world, isn't it. Love taking the motorbike through glencoe. The scenery is just so dramatic.
