Bell housing, spot the problems?

Thanks to my mate V, I got the Chim over his pit, and for the first time since I got it I had a look through the inspection hole into the bell housing. Here are some pictures




I spot one problem, the rubber cap is not replaced over the slave cylinder and the bore looks pretty shagged. Agreed?

Mystified by the oil on the shaft that pushes the thrust bearing.

Generally oil everywhere, some of this us for sure a leak I had from the oil pressure sender, was flicking all over (fixed now).

On another subject, I am thinking of swapping my strait pipes for stock, anyone fancy a change? Not totally convinced myself yet, but if you are local? (south Bedfordshire)

A lot of that looks like general grime to me. Spray, oil etc goes in and dries on the warm bell housing.

Me too, also the slave cylinder bore that you can see,and looks rusty actually might not be part of the bore that the seal runs on, if it was I'd suspect it would have mullered the seal and it would be spewing fluid by now.

The slave cylinder actually seized on my car and the operating rod eventually bent. If your clutch pedal is getting very stiff, it could be on the way out. Not an expensive part but tricky to change in situ.

Looks to me like it could be the front seal on the box weeping rather than engine oil?

Certainly easier to fix than the rear engine seal

Noticed my bell housing is open to the elements. TVR Power fitted a new clutch a few months ago but I am told that the bell housing inspection hole is not routinely sealed.
Is this true or should there be a plastic cover over it?

Defo needs a rubber bung to protect it from the elements, but many don't!
