Erm......I think it's the Citroen BX!* Can't think of a faster GTi (badged as a GTi) but sure someone will think of it. I've spent the last 5mins or so and I can't think of one!

  • I'd say my Citroen BX, but mine technically doesn't have the GTi badge and was only marketed as a 16v, though the V5 does still state GTi 16v.

Anyone?

edit: I forgot VW were still using GTi on the Golf mk5/6/7!

I didn't even know that existed. 160hp from an n/a inline 4 very impressive for a car built in 1987.

But still, in answer to your question, it's hardly the fastest car ever built badged as a GTI.

Ahhhh....yes, the newer Golfs are still technically a GTi aren't they? I'd skipped from mk2 to VR6 to R32 etc, but forgot about the Golf. Fair dos!

How many others are there though? You make out that I'm mad for not being able to think of more. Golf excepted, what else have I missed?

Mk5/6/7 Golf already pointed out. Couldn't think of any others that were actually badged as a GTi though. Nothing serious, just a random Tuesday afternoons musings.

Plenty of hot hatchbacks out there. Just because they haven't used the GTI badge doesn't mean they aren't in the same class. I think the GTI badge is a bit of a dying fad these days.

This will be tough I'm struggling to think of modern cars that still call their sporty version the GTi other than VW

Mebbe not the fastest, although allegedly just shy of 150mph, but quite probably the loveliest (and first) to use the GTi badge...

Oh completely, but I was talking about cars that carry the GTi badge specifically. Not Type-Rs, STs, VXRs etc. It's just following on from something I read on FB.

I suppose 306 GTi-6 has to count? They're a bit quicker than the BX.

Just looking at specs and the 306 has more power but slower 0-60...

I think in the real world the 306 is quicker, but I guess we have to stick to book figures. Bring opinions into it and it'll all go to st! laugh

Only ever badged as a GT, and also slower than the BX/Golf/306.

Specifically, I reckon the fastest is the Mk7 Golf GTI with the Performance Package. 6.4 to 60 and 155mph.

If a GTi-6 counts, a GTI-R counts.
Ah, yes! I'd forgotten the Nissan! 206 GTi 180, and 309 GTi 16 also.

yes

Probably not the fastest V-max but the GTI-R was mid 5's 0-60 IIRC

I think uk spec mk2s mr2s were badged gti. Not the quickest out of the list but 7.2 to 60 and 140 flat out in the early 90s isn't too shabby.
