Selling a performance car
Discussion
Need some advice really.
What have people found to be the best method for selling their performance car
Is it
- Best to list any modifications or leave them off incase you scare people?
- Best to list parts you've had replaced or leave it off incase you scare people?
Where to advertise (was shocked autotrader want £35 now but they say they have over 3 times as many viewers..?)
- Pistonheads only
- Pistonheads and autotrader
- Autotrader only
- Other?
Any other help writing the ad other than check spelling, no text speak/slang words & no caps or annoying phrases such as 'not for the faint hearted'
any other suggestions?

It depends where you are advertising. If you are pushing it on an owners based forum or car specific forum then a certain level of OCD and attention to detail is expected. However, I think signing up to such a forum just for the purpose of selling a car doesn't always work. People buying there want to 'track' your car over a period of time and see the time and effort you have put into it. That's what they pay a good price for.
Yeah, don't over eulogise, just the facts.
I would absolutely mention replaced parts as with performance stuff buyers are usually more knowledgeable, and to be honest I would want to know on any car, it means you have been stung with the cost and I probably wont be.
Modifications, depends on the car and type of mod, I would always consider returning to standard and selling any bits on Ebay as likely to realise more like that and not put anyone off, but depends on how hard it is to remove and if you have the original bits there, some mods are almost expected on certain cars.
Good photos are a must, car clean and not in a warzone, the ad needs to be in good English and checked for spelling errors, some aren't bothered, more probably are than not.

thank you for the replies so far - the modifications were all mechanical and nothing ebay/halfords/cosmetic
The thing that got me wondering was i had the gearbox rebuilt (astra M32? common fault with the bearings) and i put that down but then thought to anyone that doesn't know about the faults they might think, why when its done not even 50k miles did the gearbox need rebuilding
