Decided to take the door mirror pods off and get them repainted which requires removal of the door cards and side window front guides, no big problem but i was a little reserved on what rusty findings i might come across with the window support rails and mechanism etc following some posts i have previously read on here.

Result! no rust whatsoever on the guides or mechanism with only some minor surface rust on the actual main door support frames, which will obviously be cleaned treated and painted before reassembly.

I have a couple of questions arising from this task:
1) Should there be a weather seal/rubber strip etc on the outside of the windows? there is one attached to the door cards on the inside but nothing external.
2) There is a square speaker grille on the passenger door card only, there is no speaker and no wiring just the grille, bottom left when looking at the door card?? I would presume this had been installed somewhere down the line by a previous owner but i am sure i have looked at this in the passed and seen similar on other wedges, can anyone shed light and prove/disprove my thoughts on this? Both door cards have round speakers in the front of the door which are wired and working.

cheers
Steve

1. No. The early Tasmins had a GRP lip along the inside of the door so there was a concealed wiper which swept the glass clean as you lowered it but TVR seem to have dropped that in later production. The door has drain holes in the bottom and the idea seems to be that water is allowed to run down into the door and drain via the sills. Of course paper-coned loudspeakers didn't last long rolleyes - the later cars have a GRP water-deflector located just above the speaker pods to divert water around the speaker. The early door cards were only hardboard anyway so not the ideal material into which to mount some boom-tastic speakers.

2. Allegedly it's something to do with equalising air pressure to avoid the hood ballooning. Which it might if the cabin was hermetically sealed...

Edited 'cos I needed a poo... biggrin

You know what? with regards to the door card speaker grille, I thought you were being serious for second there, then I realized you ARE... rofl

Wonder if anyone who has ever removed them in the course of re-trimming the doors has ever blown their roof off.smile

I've got one of those. Always wondered about that, now I know: thanks!

Yes I have had the same speaker grill but I have removed it and covered the hole up. I also did have the same outer trim bit without a seal but took it off and put a proper rubber seal in.
