Hi,

I have moved in with my partner recently. I am not on the electoral role at this address yet. I am taking ownership of their car. This means that I will be made the registered keeper of the car and I will be taking out a new insurance policy for it.

Some questions:
1) When you transfer the registered keeper, do they need to know how long you have been at the address?
2) When you insure a car, do they need to know how long you have been at the address?
3) Does either group check against the electoral role (because I won't be there yet)?

I am asking because it looks simple but we are wondering if the lack of time at the new address will complicate things or increase the premium.

Thanks everyone.

This should be relatively straightforward then.

Don't forget that "ownership" and "registered keeper" are not necessarily the same thing.

Just make sure the insurance company has the full facts and everything should be fine.
