My job never ceases to amaze me,last night my Traffic Unit were employed on a drink drive patrol in West London. I was the pursuit driver in case anybody failed to stop.
After only 10 minutes a Ford Focus failed to stop and I gave chase. It was only a short chase and the Ford evntually slid to a halt in a side road, as I pulled into the same road I saw the driver running away from the Ford, I got out and gave chase, he stopped when he saw another Police car approaching but by then I wass up to full speed and ploughed into him pinning him down on the bonnet of the approaching Police car.
We soon found out the reason he failed to stop was that he was drunk, disqualified and carrying a lock knife. I returned to the Ford expecting to find it empty but was horrified to find a six year old boy sat in the rear of the car, not belted in and in the front sat his mum.
What sort of person gets into a car drunk and then drives off not stopping for the Police with a liitle boy & his mother on board, both were OK but I just couldn`t believe it....
As a matter of fact people who go out get pissed and drive I have no sympathy for there is no excuse. I have some sympathy for those who get caught the day after but thats another storysafespeed said:

People who know that the chances of being stopped since the introduction of cameras is very low. Less police = more of this. Well done for catching this guy but doesn't it make you sad that the kid will grow up a chav or worse.
Totally agree that it's a shocking state of affairs and he deserves everything he gets. Thanks for the good job that you're doing.
Reminds me of the pr1ck that went drinking, left his baby son in the car, got absolutely pissed, made his own way home and forgot about his son, still strapped in the car. I think he's doing bird now. I hope he's somebodies bitch inside, I really do.

Mad isnt it? My wife and I are very proud of our two children and would do anything for them. It amazes me to see parents who dont strap theirs in - never mind driving while drunk and running away.... amazing.
Rest assurred after the custody sergent, the judge etc etc have had their piece of him, the remains get given to the missus..! Hope she rips him to shreds - and if so, rather him than me! 
Was the wife under the limit? why wasn't she driving?
Mind you - on a similar vein, i often see the driver of a car talking on a non-handsfree mobile, when they have a passenger... why? If the call was necessary (eg directions), why couldn't the passenger take the call?

Yeah, but this episode might be the wake up call he needed to stop behaving like an idiot. Or maybe it was a one off 'i have had 3 pints but its only a one minute drive type decision'...
How pissed was this guy?
Was it obvious by his driving he was drunk or was it a randon stop?

Sorry, I just read the first post again, somehow the fact that the guy was disqualified, and carrying a knife went straight over my head! I just saw the 'drunk' bit and thought, "How drunk?"
In retrospect, the guy sounds like he deserves what he gets.
