So I was through the back of the shop doing the accounting when I heard the buzz of a bike accelerating hard on the main road near by, (wide open NSL) or so I thought. The next thing I know I hear it full chat passing on the road outside,(Village road 30mph) I run out to see but I'm obviously too late, didn't help I looked the wrong way. Turns out this rider was travelling into the village, not out of it, whilst popping a wheelie according to witnesses. We have a bad case of speeding within the village but to be honest this was just too much really.

Here's the street view: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@57.249142,-3.759941...

There's a 90 degree corner only 3-400 metres down from us where there's also a greater centre of population.

No doubt some bikers ride sensibly. Most of the ones I seem to encounter - don't.

Definitely not.

It's completely unacceptable to be doing your accounts on a Sunday.

I had some fun with a couple of responsible bikers the other day, they wanted to make progress as did I, neither of us took chances and I made sure to leave room for them if they wished to overtake and they didn't overtake in areas that would put other road users at unease. It was a good time for all involved. What I heard and others witnessed was not fun, it was incredibly reckless.

Not sure what the point of the post is?

Surely you know the answer and we can all just agree based on what's been stated.

In terms of the law most definitely not... But why do I feel its more acceptable for bikers to be travelling in excess of the speed limit? Probably just got used to seeing them always speeding, they are far safer to pedestrians/kids than electric cars travelling at the speed limit on the same stretch... If it was as loud as you say nobody can use the excuse that they didn't hear it coming... smile

They make a racket, electric cars are almost silent. Motorbikes have a smaller surface area than any car so if somebody steps out the likelihood of contact is lower than stepping out in front of a car, they can also nip past cyclists without much of an issue... I'm not saying it's right that they should do it but we aren't going to stop them... Maybe it's time the government gave them there own speed limits, they are more a danger to themselves than other road users...
