i have recently seen a scirocco gti mk2 and think that it is a gorgeous car, i am yet to buy a car as i am not able to get my licence until october next year but i would like to get a car before then. i got an insurance quote on it for £2200, if anyone has any info about them please let me know, i would also like to hear your oppinions on them

I've owned 2 Sciroccos, a 1.8 GT (carb) and a 1.8 GTX (injection, same engine as a Mk2 Golf GTi 8V).

They're great cars, but quite old now (last ones are about 1992ish), so most will have pretty high mileage. Handling is pretty good and performance is decent - hence the high insurance quote

The worst thing about them is the brakes, discs on the front only which might be a bit offputting if you're used to modern braking performance!

They should be fairly reliable - my GTX passed MOTs 4 years in a row with nothing needing done, and most parts are easy enough to get from a scrapyard as a lot of parts are shared with the Mk2 Golf or other VWs of a similar age.

For insurance, try some classic car insurers that do 'modern classics' as they often work out significantly cheaper. The best place to find these is in the back of classic car magazines.
You may find it a lot cheaper if you restrict your mileage to under 7500 pa and keep it garaged.
