act.

Red Bull have confirmed the signing of David Coulthard.

The Scot has agreed a one-year deal with Dietrich Mateschitz’s team.

It is thought that the deal will be performance-related with the Scot receiving heavy incentives for every point he scores.

Coulthard has been the red hot favourite to land a drive with the team ever since bosses Tony Purnell and David Pitchforth signalled their determination to recruit an experienced driver.

And the deal was sealed when Coulthard tested for the team at Jerez last week. He outpaced both Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
Doesn't look like he'll be earning much this year then

Why did I feel a little part of my life ebb away on hearing this news?

He's starting to remind me of that Mustapha bloke from Austin Powers - he just won't bugger off will he?

I genuinely believe he'll be a real asset to the team.

He quite categorically outpaced the team's regular driver on his first day in the car. And again on the next day, etc.

He might be a whiner, but he knows full well that (unlike the McLaren) his new car is not a potential winner. Therefore he won't complain when he finishes "only" 5th. So I will expect a more upbeat and perhaps - dare I say - interesting person.

I reckon he'll rise to it and help move them forwards. Good luck to him.
