Was thinking of putting a proper Rover V8 badge (as in P5/P5/MGB's) on the back, ie the one with the 2 pins but not sure how thick the glass fibre is. Any ideas?
Would probably be in the same place as the Griffith badge but on the other side of the number plate.

It varies depending on the layup but I'd guess (having seen my Griff's back end hanging off )I'd say 4-5mm at most

I would agree with David on this Paul. When I took my badges off for refurbishment a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly there was approximately 4mm of fibre glass that the mounting studs had to go through. Knowing the 'non precise' nature of fibre glass layering this does not mean yours is the same. Why don't you take the Griffith badge off the back and make an assessment of your panel thickness? I assume the Rover badge is 'pin' mount with press on retaining clips? If so you will need new clips as removed old ones can often work loose! Regards, Pete

Why drill the fibreglass?
Cut the pins off the Rover badge and use double sided sticky foam to attach it.
That way if you decide it looks pants, either now or some time in the future, you can take it back off again.

That is good advice. Paul if you want to do this let me know, I can send you some professional automotive panel bonding tape (you will only need a small amount). Regards, Pete

do you mean like this one?

Mine is bolted, cos it didn't seem right cutting the studs off a classic P5B badge, but my later RR badges on the side are held on with double sided foam tape

I fitted this badge. It has two threaded pins that pass through the body.

I drilled it, and bolted the badge on. I would estimate the fibreglass to be 3 or 4mm thick. I used a couple of larger washers to spread the load on the inner side.

Thanks all. Would drill through as the body work is poor anyway, and needs a full re-spray at some point so if I don't like it I can always fill and spray over.
No offence but the triangle badge don't look right on a curvy car.

use masking tape...it gives you something to pencil mark the hole position, but more importantly it will stop the paint flaking away from the edge of the hole whilst drilling it

Pete, you seem to be a mine of info. I just bought some off Fleabay, is this the right spec for things like badges, number plates etc?

No offence taken. You do what you wish with your own car, and I'll do mine how I like it.

Then we have individual cars. Some people dont like the colour of mine........no problem !

yikes

Oh well......no doubt the wind tunnel tests will give up the true benefit of downforce gained v drag. eek

As for the aesthetics....well everyone to their own.

It only goes on for track days/sprints to nuetralise the front downforce ...as for drag, well I don't really notice it with 400 BHP ATW cool
