So I have decided I need one in my life, to go on my commuter/general riding about town bike, which looks like this...
I guess it needs to be black, as it'll match the bars and the black mudguards, and I was set on a Cambium but am now wondering about the leather options.
The main criteria is that it has to be rideable in normal clothes comfortably for 45 mins, which I guess they'll all meet really. Does anyone have experience of the Cambium against the leather versions they can share?

Brooks saddles? Are they still going?

You see loads of the leather ones on bikes here for some reason, no idea why though? I just like the way they look, and I'm told they are comfortable (once they're broken in, in the case of leather ones).
I like the Swift and Swallow as well, I think a trip to the LBS to try them out is in order.

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but how do you find the Day One?
How is the shifter to get on with?
Do you spin out easily on the flat? The front ring is only a 40, isn't it? Not sure what the Alfine gearing is like.
I'm tempted by something like this as a commuter. Was looking at the Pinnacle Arkose with similar shifter and hydraulic brakes.

I have two bikes with B17s on, one is extremely comfortable, and has been since the day I fitted it. The other is just starting to come round to my way of thinking, after 1,120 miles according to Strava, but it has been a long and hard road, wished I'd put a Spoon on it for most of those miles...

No idea yet, as it's currently sitting in a distribution shed somewhere in Belgium on the way here. I decided if the gearing is wrong it's easy to change the sprocket for a smaller one. I had a play with the shifter and decided I quite like it but again, no real world experience so far. How is the shifter to get on with?

Indeed, that was my logic for buying (I paid £700, minus the VAT). Hopefully it'll be here tomorrow and I can have it built up and running on Saturday.
It won't be able to cruise along at 35kph behind a postman's scooter and trailer like my road bike does, but with full guards and a rack it'll be a much better commuter for my 17km ride to the office I'm sure.

It finally arrived today so I built it up this evening and had a very quick ride around the block. First impressions are that the gearing is too low, starting off in top feels easier then my old single speed did running a 42-11 so a change of rear cog is needed. The brakes need bedding in too but I'm hoping to ride to the office in the morning and see how it goes. It's a lovely looking bike though, and feels nice to ride too so I'm happy so far. How is the shifter to get on with?

On the saddle front, I went for a Cambium in the end, I like the look of them, and although I know it makes no difference the leather ones feel REALLY heavy.
So far it's really comfortable, especially when combined with 32c tyres and a steel frame, it feels like I could ride the bike all day with no discomfort at all.
Also, although I initially felt it was under geared in fact it feels OK, I can hold 30kph without spinning out which for this type of bike is fine I think. I might still go for a 18T sprocket though, as I seem to only use gears 6, 7 and 8 which seems a bit of a waste!
