So, here's the conundrum. I recently started working as a car salesman, loving it so far. I get a company car which knocks about £180 a month off my salary (talking to another salesman who doesn't take a company car, he gets a higher basic than me because of this).

I'm living in town right now so don't need a huge 4x4 or the like, my current demo is a 1.2 Fiat Panda and it suits our needs perfectly. I'm just thinking £180 a month is a bit steep considering I could get a much higher spec Panda for roughly the same amount once insurance and tax are factored in, form similar payments on PCP, with the added bonus of the OH being able to drive it (she's a learner so can't add her to the insurance on the company car). I'm in two minds about this, would like to know what PHers think?

Depending on what dealer group you work for, you can probably get some dirt cheap lease deals through them.

The reason it costs you so much is most dealerships work on bandings, so you pay more so the manager pay less.

I'd say if it's the first time you've done car sales, keep the company car for now before you know it's for you. Once certain, then make a swap and get rid of. Couldn't think of anything worse than getting stuck with a Panda for 3 years on PCP.

Good points there. Will certainly see how it goes the next few months. I'm actually quite impressed with the Panda, having had the last shape one a few years ago, I'd happily buy one, just with a bit more spec than my demo of course! Although I'm up for a new car next month, never know I may get something that's definitely worth the £180!
