Hi chaps
Just a new boy wanting to say hello and introduce myself. I'm a car nut (as I presume we all are) and have been fascinated in them for a number of years, mainly modified cars and varying forms of motorsport from hillclimb to le mans. I am currently doing driving lessons and loving it. I'm hoping to get my first car by Christmas and I plan to get very hands on with it and mainly use it for a school commute (short 20 minute trip) primarily but not always if things need sorting on the car. I dream to one day own, tinker and eventually majorly modify my very own rx7 fd and run it as both a street car and for time attack events. I have been looking far wide for ideas about first cars and am keen on just an old ka whilst saving for a decent second car as I build up no claims etc. I have wondered though whether it would be possible to get an old rx7 fc and fix it up a little before I get using it, being very keen to get hands on with a rotary engine. I do wonder though what initial insurance would be like, as a rwd or higher powered car (well only 150hp), but if I went with a specialist insurer could I get cut a decent deal at between £1500 and £2000 pushing to £2500. Much thanks guys, I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on my abnormal idea!

Welcome...
Potentially an FC RX-7 could work out cheaper than other cars of it's power, due to not many young people crashing them...
...but, I'm not sure how ludicrous insurance is these days so really the best way to rule it out or not is to ring round as many places as you can for quotes and see what they say. You may well end up having to go the ka route as your transport and keep the FC off the road for a few years while you fix it up - sounds like a good idea to me! Not many about mind...

This is what tempted me though - http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/mazd...
looks promising and some good handy work to be done too but not too much I don't think.
I shall have a look at websites tonight though and maybe find some places to give a call tomorrow
Anyone with experience is much welcome to offer up some advice if they have any previous experience etc!
Cheers

Awesome! I've got many quotes and such now, rung around too; it's safe to say I'll be saving till I'm at least 21 for an fd and just stick to a wee clio 172 or something similar for a while. Will be good to get more road experience first too in something less ambitious to say the least
