I'm actually considering a CLS500 as a daily, but I only drive 16 miles (round trip) to work every day, and a monthly few hundred mile motorway hack.

Bad idea? The way I see it, I should have a V8 whilst petrol is relatively affordable, and I don't have mega miles to cover.

Why not, have a look at the difference between the CLS500'S mpg and another sensible option and you might find the difference is acceptable.

My neighbour has an R8 as a station car. 5 miles each way and is otherwise almost unused.

I use my M5 for my 130 mile commute, and then when I stay near work I use it for the 5 mile commute.

If I'm sensible I average around 25 over the full tank

Remember, there's always a CL600 too, either a V12 that will sound like this with a straight through exhaust

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN8pHJ3sQ0Q

Or the later one which is a V12 with two turbos.

It's looking like the xx600 V12's have about the same MPG as the xx500's, and if you're thinking of getting a V8 before they all disappear, what about a V12!

Pff, I wouldnt call that stupid, not since I am justifying buying a 1000 cc sports bike capable of 100 mph in first gear rofl

so go for it!

The long motorway run 12 times a year will more than justify the need for such a brute ;-)

also, why not lengthen your commute to take in a tunnel or 6?
