Looking a bit of advice / opinions, and yes i know the only thing to do is go drive them, but living at the far west of northern ireland these cars are few and far between here.

I sold my 360 last year, and after some debate ended up in a 996 turbo. love the car, it is a perfect example, manual and a perfect drive. The main reason I sold the 360 though was with 2 children now under 3 in our house it was getting little use. Went for the 996 turbo, but if i am honest it may not have worked exaclty as I had hoped. we use it as a family, but i am not happy with the lack of space for the kids in the back (i am planning to try Porsche prince car seats to see if it makes a difference).

this has led me to look at maseratis, and i am considering either a gransport or granturismo......any one any advice or thoughts etc

I currently have a Granturismo S MC Shift alongside my Carrera GTS. Maser is wonderful but nothing like Porsche Turbo (just sold my 997.1 TT).

Maser is a real grand tourer, Porsche is a sports car. I would sum up the Maser as super classy, fast, handles well but heavy, kind of feels like you shouldn't fling it around corners too often but soaks it up well when you do......and then there is the noise, oh the noise....! Definitely more of an event to get in and drive than the 996 and totally practical for seating 4 adults or 2 kids and the wife without compromise.

Do it! You'll be complaining that you are driving it too much.

no probs, good forum to visit is sportsmaserati.com, they seem a friendly bunch and keen to offer detailed advice to newbies about engine and gearbox choices that you will need to make. Gave me lots of advice before I bought.

Good luck!

dan i am toying with that at the minute, will see where i go with this. it belonged to a porsche club president and won concours a few times etc, so it really was the best example i could find at the time. i have had a very strong trade bid on it which has taken me a bit by suprise so i will have to weigh everything up...... either that or amputate the children above the knee. wink

very true adam, have always found though that a lot of people dont realise what the standard spec is on a turbo, so better to stick it all down or they disregard it

Quite true, for each of is who can quote the difference in standard tyre section between a Carrera Classic wheel and a Carrera Sport wheel on a 997.1, there are many Porsche buyers who just want the fastest one in blue!

Could always have been swapped for some weak bendy 997 turbo replicas!
