Tonsils and Adenoids out - 3 year old

My 3 year old is having his tonsils and adenoids out on Friday (and gromits in his ears) which will be a laugh a minute (!).
What I'd like to know is what I can expect afterwards - Is he likely to feel discomfort? What's it like to have all that done? I know he'll be feeling crappy as he'll have a general, but it's his recovery that I'm not sure about.
Can't wait - I have to be at the kids hospital at 0745. Urgh.
