Older car 'new price' guides

I'm sure this comes up from time to time, I've googled but only seem to be able to find current valuations for older cars.

Is there an online resource where I can look up original OTR prices for cars made in the 1970-1990 period? I'm looking into running an older car through my company and would need to know the original list price for P11D purposes.

The only thing I can think of is to try and buy some old CAP or Parkers guides from 1990 or so.

Just a possibility, if you have a few cars in mind perhaps contact the relevant enthusiast's club's, I'm sure they will be able to advise.

...or try to find an oroginal road test, either online or buy a magazine from Ebay, it'll have the OTR price.

I've got a 1977 Glasses Guide that lists the new price as well as what some options cost when new.

I was thinking about 80s-90s stuff as a company car. I know that list on a 1990 CRX VT was about 12k and the HMRC rules on classics worth less than 15k is that they are taxed on the original list price.

I'd probably be looking at something than was reasonably commonplace like an RS2000 or XR3i (just as an example of what springs to mind) with an OTR of under £10000 rather than Jags, Porsches etc.

I'm not looking for it to be a daily driver, but if I am going to go for a classic as a second car then I would run it through the company.

Good idea ... before I bought my 944, I went to see a local one and the guy has the original sales invoice. It was a 1987 - E reg - and it cost £26,000-odd THEN.

I couldn't afford to spend that on a new car NOW, so how did people back then - the many ways of purchasing new cars around today were surely not around 25 years or so ago?

No idea what the equivelant would be today - see Boxter/Gayman prices I presume ...

Any of the listings magazines from the 1980s or 1990s would do it. Most of 'What car?' was made up of car price and spec listings, for example. If you post up names of cars you're interested in, I'm sure someone will be able to find the list price. I have loads of 1980s magazines, I'm sure that's not unusual here!

I'm sure it varies from car to car, but that Octane link isn't very accurate for my car, unfortunately.

More like F Type price I would think. The Boxster was only around £30K when it came out in the mid nineties.
