Bit of a random one this but I recently moved my 996 on and have a quandary on what to replace it with. I've whittled down my new car to two possibilities and they're quite different.

The first is a 55/06/56/07 Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
The second is a 58/09/59/10 Mercedes C63.

One dealer said to me "would you prefer the INCREDIBLE looking girl who isn't great in bed or would you prefer a nice looking girl who is DYNAMITE in the sack..."

I'm really after people's opinions on each. What would you go for, etc.?

Personally the looks of the Aston would swing it, great looking cars. The C63 has presence and offers more practicality but ultimately it's a beefed up C class. Additionally I prefer manuals by and large.

I guess only you can decide which best meets your needs!

C63 every time.....I changed my 996 for an AMV8 and went back to Porsche (albeit a 997 turbo) after 5 months......

It sounds like you are in the 4.3 price bracket for the Aston? I'd choose the C63 in that case.

Are you dead set on one or the other?

I went from a 996 Turbo S to an Aston V8 to a Caterham R500, to an R8

Stupidly fast, safe, grippy but dull... sexy, schmoozy, lovely, oval office, but slow... Feisty, skittish, widow maker, but damp... tactile, raunchy, strangely impractical but pointy. Loved 'em all.

If you can stretch to c£30K there are 4 on the MB official used site in that region, 2 under and 2 just over. All would come with a warranty and decent (if not new) tyres as well as 4 doors and that wonderful soundtrack biggrin

C63 for me all day long, too many Ford and Volvo parts in the early AMV8's for my liking thumbup

Thanks for the feedback gents. I was set on a 997 but the gen 1 model frightens the hell out of me with some of the horror stories I've heard/read and as soon as I think about a gen 2 there are lots of other cars I'd prefer up at that kind of money.

Never driven the C63 - but the V8 Vantage is a wonderful beast (I do have the 4.7 though - not sure how that compares to the 4.3).

Based on the reactions I get whilst driving around in it - I suspect many others agree. I have never seen a car get a reaction out of people like I have in the Aston.

If you don't like attention - don't get an Aston.

Does anybody ever mess with your Aston? When you leave it places? Car parks, etc.?

Touch wood - no.

It gets a lot of attention - but not in a bad way.

Question has to be asked, will you need to use rear seat in the coming year or do you have access to another car?

Yes, my wife has an Audi Q7. I'm pretty free to get what I'd like. Always fancied an Aston but only recently properly looked at a C63 and it really takes my fancy.

Weird isn't it how people need to gel with cars. I'm the opposite to you. I have yet to drive a Porsche I have liked. Both me and my wife drove the 997 and the V8 Vantage on the same day.

We both hated the Porsche (felt far to light on the front end) - and we both fell in love with the Aston. We had exactly the same result with our previous car comparing the Boxter with the 350Z.

I also drove the V10 Audi R8 on the same day - now that is a fabulous car, but was at the very thick end of our budget and the badge did put me off a little. We liked the Aston too much to warrant maxing out.

If you can - drive both on the same day - then go with your heart.

You can teach an INCREDIBLE looking girl to be dynamite in the sack.

You can't make an average looking girl much prettier, other than augmenting the mellons.

And we all know it's all about the bum

Most pre-2010 Astons are starting to look rather dated now. And most of the AMVs are not very fast.

The C63 is nippy and has presence. But it is a bit "old man".

Maybe save a bit longer and go for a newer, shinier V12 Aston.

The 4.7 is not a bad compromise - it doesn't feel slow like the 4.3. Just don't drive the V12...
