As a couple of previous threads started by myself I have been in a fight to keep the ute and not buy something rather German, I have a budget of 5k now(but has to pay for clutch too)to play with, could chop the ute in and get something "out of the box" or just do it and make the ute even funnier than it is now, my previous rs6 has ruined me a fair bit as I crave that power again, can I get that from the ute for that money(scrimping and saving) or am I being too ambitious and should stop wasting time and go for an m5 AMG or another rs?
Basically end goal is under 5 secs to 60, rather than predict the horsepower!
Thoughts?
Ps to make it even more challenging brakes and suspension may have to be upgraded too!

The only way you'll get to 60 in five seconds is by painting the road with glue! With all the power in world traction is stil going to be your problem. If all you want is to play traffic light Grand Prix you be better off in something lighter and 4wd.
However...
If you a ton of grunt, a sound track by Thor, and the general ability to stomp on euro trash, £5k (or less) will more than do the job.

Actually the other thing to think about is this. Utes are like rocking horse s**t and really desirable. If you get your work done by someone like Roger or the Wortec gang and then decide it still doesn't cut the mustard you won't find it difficult to get your money back when you sell.

Is the traction that bad in a Ute?

It ain't great, no traction control on mine and very light at the back, but since the new wheels which have stretched 275's on, it's been better, should be able to get 305's to fit if it gets too mad!Monaros can be under 4secs.
Can do some myself but using a pro makes it nicer on the paperwork, but pushes costs up

Cam,remap,suspention and brakes will be poss ish for 5K

Really? Whose does this? Are there any logs etc? That's good going if so. Looking at my efi live logs I'm at about 4.7 - 4.9 depending on launch (which depends on he surface) but that's at Santa Pod and not GPS verified. Haven't logged any attempts on the road with warm tyres, would be interesting...
I'm only on 245s of course

If you have a £5k budget, spend £3k on the car, and use the £2k to buy something fun and insure it. 
You'll have a cheap project (and low priced cars are really cheap on parts) yet you will appreciate the Ute when you take it out.

I've used mine as a daily driver for the past few weeks. 65 miles a day round trip to work is fun but I worked out today I'm getting 14 mpg on V-Power driving like miss daisy! Don't care though as it goes like the clappers and sounds amazing. Can't stop grinning even after 8 years of ownership
Edit: Also, the more I use it the better it gets, they love exercise.
