Just collected my 2014 Sakhir Orange M6. I am considering changing the exhaust. I have looked at the Akrapovic system, but as i change my car every 18 months or so i don't want to pay the £6.3k I have been quoted.

Can anyone recommend an exhaust for the V8 M6 ? I like the sound of it but it isn't quite as nice as my AM V8 Vantage was.

Cheers

I would probably look at taking the back box apart and removing the wadding and changing the pipe design inside, or just removing the backboxes completely and having straight pipes with just tail trims on the end.

You can see what is being done here on an F10 M5-

and you'll have the chance to return it to original pretty easy.

I'm pretty sure the sound from my stock exhaust is getting better with age. Perhaps it's the exhaust carbon-ing up a little? A little over 2,000 miles now and it really sounds quite nice with the windows down.

Is it actually louder with the engine setting in Sport+ than in Sport? I don't think it should be but sometimes in the way back from the station I convince myself it is!

I've got 9000 miles on mine now and it sounds lovely yes

Mine also sounds louder in sport+ and I drive in M2 manual 90% of the time hence my low MPG smile

I had an Eisenmann Race system fitted to my M5, but after six months had it removed due extremely loud cold start-up and the level of drone at cruising speed on the motorway. The actual sound it made was wonderful....

After six months of the OEM system, I have opted to get a IPE Valvetronic system fitted, the beauty of the system is that it has three modes, Off(Sounds like OEM), On loutish and Auto where you can adjust the RPM that it opens. Its not fitted yet but on order.

Cheers for the help guys. I agree it sounds better in Sport+ and Manual, especially when changing down. It has 1500 miles on now so will wait a while and see if the sound gets better. I have attached a pic as requested, will get some more taken.

I am currently in the same predicament with my M5 after choosing to retain it rather than selling it.

Thinking arapovic evolution with IPM straight down pipes. I can not help thinking that i could find a similar system for cheaper.

The bmw M performance exhaust IS the Akrapovic exhaust .... It just comes with different tips and a BMW premium.

Really want an Akrapovic but need to hear it in person before spending £6K on a bloody exhaust and not found anyone in UK with one on an M6 that is willing or able to meet frown

Just wire the valves open in the exhaust rear boxes, it will sound better and no drone.
The Comp Pack exhaust with wired open Valves sounds great.
