Need to get my Chimaera MOT'd (first time in my ownership). Can I take it to my local garage, where I get my other cars done, or is this a specialist job (maybe due to LSD & use of rolling road for brake test)?

If it is a specialist job, can anyone recommend an appropriate test centre in the west of Cheshire?

Nope any station can do it, just make sure they're not monkeys!

Seconded. Took mine to a trusted local garage.
Was told diff damage so remote a possibility that it was not worth worrying about.

as it has a limited slip diff it should not be tested on a rolling road it should be tested with a decelerometer at 20 mph if your garage says otherwise remind them that any damage done during the test they are liable for

Have discussed the same with my local garage. They are aware of LSD issues but use a rolling road. They said that as long as the diff isn't allowed to wind up too much, there isn't a problem with this way of testing.
Remember TVRs are not the only cars with LSD and lots
of people must take their vehicles in to places like
Kwik-Fit. The papers are not awash with stories of
cars getting knackered at MOT stations and I can't believe that its down to the "skill" of the tester
every time.

I used to run an MOT station, the chance of any diff wind up is very very small.

4x4s are a different kettle of fish!

Could potentially damage an LSD over an extended period but seems unlikely if it's only being tested for a few seconds. But wouldn't the test results be meaningless? You have no way of knowing how much of the 'braking' comes from the handbrake and how much is coming from the LSD.

I also am an MOT tester.
In your own interests tell them its got a LSD
Since you should do the brake test last, you can tell when you turn the back wheels jacked up ( ie both turn the same way )
better safe than sorry
