Just tried using the spare keyfob to open the car. Red light on fob flashes like billio but car will not open :-(

Keyfob I've been using for ages works fine.

I've tried leaving the fob button depressed for a while hoping it'll "catch up" - but to no avail.

Is this something I can "reprogramme" or do I have to take it to a dealer ?

You might be ok. After 5 days, the keyfob disables itself to preserve the battery. Unlock and relock using the key manually and you might be ok. The alarm will probably go off... Key in the ignition will stop that.

I had a problem with my key fob where you had to push it really had to get it too work as the button inside had worn , so rather than pay for an expensive new one I put thin bit of card in the fob and now it works fine!

Keyfob carries on working, it's the alarm control unit that stops listening for the signals. There's a cunning way to avoid the alarm going off too:

Key in lock, turn till the car unlocks but don't open the door.
Use keyfob to lock and unlock car
get in and marvel at the silence.

or it might just need a new battery.

red light on key fob should continually flash to tell you to change battery, but after a while it will give up.
