I'm not sure how many N Gauge modellers there are who frequent this forum but I know there have been some threads in the past.

I recently came across the following project that has been set up to try and make a model that the main manufacturers seem to have ignored. It's quite well discussed on model railway forums but possible some who may have be interested may have missed it.

Certainly an ambitious project and use of crowdfunding certainly a novel way to try and bring a model, railway related or not, to the market.

The crowdfunding isn't up and running as yet but the above linked website provides some interesting background for the project for anyone who's interested.

I have a ton of 'modern' N gauge models (including four hand-built CJM locos) but I've never had the time or space to do anything useful with them. I would have thought if there were enough demand for a Pendolino Dapol would have been on the case - they're pretty sharp at picking up on the stuff people say they want.

Given the ever diminishing space in which people are expected to live these days in the UK I'm surprised we've not seen a range of British Z gauge emerge. That would be a more credible project, I feel.

Dapol seem to be dragging their heals on 'their' Pendolino and have set they have put it on the back burner. I suspect this is why others have taken up the challenge.

As to z guage, to fiddly for many and has never really take off in the UK so I'd say that would be a much greater risk.

You've obviously got good taste if you have some CJM locos! You really should get them running!

Cheers

Maybe I've been out of the loop for too long but Dapol used to be very on the ball.

I think Z gauge has never really taken off in the UK because no one has offered a decent range of British Z gauge models. It's that 'chicken and egg' situation - to take off there has to be a range, but to be a range there has to be a demonstrable demand, but to demonstrate demand there has to be something that people can buy to express that demand.

I really should get my stuff running but sadly there just isn't the space. I was going to build a huge loft layout when I lived with my ex, but that wasn't to be. Then there's been a string of rented properties ... one day perhaps. In the meantime it's a case of periodically exercising my locos on a loop of temporary Kato Unitrack.

Just thought I'd bump this thread to update on progress.

At the moment there are 307 backers and £112,888 pledged. That's still just under £100,000 short of the total needed to make an N gauge Pendolino a reality.

There are all sorts of options for pledges, including a model of the poppy-liveried Pendolino set which will include a donation to the Royal British Legion. Of course that can only happen if the project reaches the target amount.

All the project needs is another 300 backers pledging at the same level as the existing supporters. With less than 2 weeks until the Kickstarter deadline it would be a shame to see it fail. Especially if there are people out there who would have pledged if only they had known about the project.

I've pledged, if you want to find out more go to http://www.ngaugependolino.com/
