Got a 2900 for the weekend. I forgot to ask the hire company. What's the speed limit?

I know white Astravans tend to be the fastest vehicles in earth but this is a proper van. What's my legal max on a motorway, and NSL roads please.

If it a white van, there is no limit. Fast as you can everywhere you go. You can also use a mobile and eat a sandwich whilst driving it.

A quick google brings up this,

https://www.gov.uk/speed-limits

Hope that helps.

Motorways 70mph
Dual 60mph
Single 50mph

Unless a lower speed limit is showing

Not sure exactly on how heavy the van is, but if it's under 3 tonnes, standard car driving rules apply. I'd assume by a "2900" you're safe.

Has to be lighter than 2 tonnes, according to the above link

I stand corrected then. I really thought there was something to do with vans and 3 tonnes. Maybe it's to do road tax.

How did he escape getting any points for that??

Already on 11 points, and they let him off because he would be jobless, despite 2 previous speeding offenses. Ridiculous.

Why they dont tell you that when you hire a van, instead of 'if you stick to normal speed limits you'll be alright mate'
(normal meaning those limits on the website)

Thanks guys. Up early, just had a can of Red Bull for Brekkie. Off in a mo. To be clear then it's 90 unless you can get it faster and a max of 3 feet from the car I front.

Sorted!

Has anyone who has ever driven a van actually stuck to those limits on a dual carriageway and motorway? hehe

And a £25 victim surcharge? Is that for the copper who was sat in the van taking the picture as he was traumatised by having actually caught someone speeding on the A1079 (most people who travel down this road regularly tend to be well aware of the fixed and mobile speed traps - I was!) hehe

I generally stick to them in my Caddy van, mainly because there are scamera vans around and i don't fancy testing them.

Motorways are not a problem as the limit is 70MPH

Old style caddy van is car derived and car speed limits apply

The new (current) shape caddy van has a GVM >2000kg therefore must follow van (lower) speed limits.

There might be an assumption of basic familiarity with the HC. Wildly optimistic, I know...

I drive my van van at the same speed as my car generally. 75-80 on the motorway.. A normal sized Vivaro.
