I originally published a similar post asking for people's opinions and preferences between the AM V8V and the Merc C63.

After driving a C63 yesterday I've decided to rule it out. Awesome car, incredible engineering but I'm not really going to get to enjoy that truly exhilarating acceleration very often at all given my short commute to work each day.

I used to have a 996 and loved it, really, really loved it, but I've now moved it on due to the horror stories cropping up more and more with regards to the engine problems associated.

I've now increased my budget to £35k which brings older gen 2 997s into the equation. What would you go for:

58/09/59 Porsche 911 997 Gen 2
55/06/56/07 Aston Martin V8 Vantage

To be honest I think I'd be happy with either but, like last time, your opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Surely its more a case of which one to buy first? That's what I do in these situations.

I'd buy the Aston first to scratch the itch and get it out of my system, then I'd buy the 911.

Well done for ditching the 4 door saloon idea, by the way wink

i'm in a similar position actually. I've currently got a C63 on lease through work and previously had a 996C2 which I miss so much. If it was as a toy then I'd go AM but if everyday then the 997C2S GEN2 would be my choice.

My budget can't get me into a 997 GEN2 and I don't fancy the engine concerns from the 996 again.

I went from a Gen 2 997 S to a 4.3 AMV8

I kept the 997 for 3 months and although it's better engineered than the AM, I personally found it soulless hence chopping it in so quickly (the shortest time I have ever kept a car).

The AMV8 has real passion - take out fuse 22 (on the 4.3 model) and it sounds amazing from the moment you push the start button. It gave me over 2 years of very happy motoring.

Personally I'd go the Aston any day of the week
