Guess they're lazy with the fact they're being axed next month.

Mine expires on 1st October so not even sure I'll get a disc for my £265.

Probably selling off the equipment. Paper tax disc won't need to be displayed in a few weeks.

This.

You've been issued what is one of the very last tax discs. The letter it came with explains it as well!

The letter says.....it is printed on different paper and doesn't have perforations. the reason for this is that the DVLA has run down it's pre-existing stocks to ensure that there was no wastage. To give value for money to the tax payer we have not replenished our stocks for this short period but decided to print the discs in-house.

Leave it as it is. It will be worth big money for collectors in 100 years' time!

Am I too cynical?

The paper disc gives us an additional reminder to renew the disc. By abolishing paper more people will forget, mislaid reminders and lost in post = more fines and more revenue....

The properly cynical view is that paper records are no longer needed as you can be tracked virtually anyway.

So put it on a direct debit and you don't need to remember..

The letter to which the tax disc was printed / attached explains the reason why - they knew they were switching to the new 'disc less' system in October and deliberately ran down the stocks of the perforated / printed type to avoid wasting money on replacing them only to have to throw away a load of surplus afterwards. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Won't matter in a months time as you won't be displaying it any more.

They have redeployed the team of old ladies that sat there all day putting the holes in with a needle.
