My recall letter arrived today. Pretty much as has been discussed before. The one thing that is not mentioned is the point on some distant threads about the lock malfunctioning whilst you are at speed. So the issue is with the lock not disengaging, not re-engaging.

On that basis I cannot say I am motivtaed to drive from the South Coast to Manchester to get it fixed !

Got my letter as well. I had warranty work carried out by BM on the steering column lock. I'm sure its still fitted as I can hear it and the column locks. Does this mean I need the lock removing??

Depends on what car you have. If you have an American auto then the fix is to remove the lock. If you have a manual or a European auto the fix is to reprogram the PCM. No idea why it is different between the American and export auto.

Yep we got ours yesterday, recorded delivery FFS, good job I couldn’t drag myself out of bed on time yesterday or I would have had to treck down to post office to sign for it.

Supposedly ours was done back in the spring when it was in to have some new problems installed, sorry I meant to say warrantee repair work there but couldn’t bring myself to say it.

Now I guess we somehow need to find out if it really was done and if they inspected the strike plate like it says or if we will prove Clarkson right and head off into the bushes at the first corner.

Do doubt my letter is awaiting my return.
Firstly, I would guess that BM will arrange to transport the cars to Manchester for the work to be done.
Secondly Cadillac Europe have told me in writing that any Vauxhall dealer can do the recall work but they will need BM approval as they will have to be reimbursed via BM. The issues are whether your local dealer wants to do the work and if you are happy for them to do it, given that BM should be au fait with it.

Recorded delivery ? Oh well, I'll never get it then as I'm always out when the postman comes and its too much of a pain to get to the collection point.

Same circumstances as me. I've not spoken to BM or Cadillac Europe since receiving the letter but will await your response first

Mine arrived too on Saturday. Must have been a job lot - and right before xmas too.

Like you all say above - euro spec are to be re-programmed, usa ones, removed.

Incidently mine is just out of warranty and did not mention how to get it to a dealer, except that if it is in warranty you are entitled to a shuttle service or replacement car. So thats no good really.

Also it talks about "your dealer" whoever that may be (BM I suppose for the UK).

I will prefer to do it at the time of a service and make the trip worthwile if I have to take it there.

Interested in how you all get on.

Ahh thank god it can go to Bauer Millett, 25 min drive for me I've just rang Bauer Millett who know all about it, the guy said that there is more chance of landing on the moon in the same spot twice than it actually failing (or words to that affect)
I'm getting it done with the service which is due in about 2000 miles anyway.

Hi YELLOWSHARK454 I got timed out on the PC so thought nothing could get posted, just seen post, I was going to say could not see your email address on this site but I sure I can get it through the CCCUK site but was going to wait a few days due to Christmas mail but thanks for the reply.
I just wondered were you all intend to get this work done I know about BM to far for me unless I can get them to trailer my car limited mileage insurance, but if Cadillac agree and they need to for trading standard laws will they agree to Crownhill Milton Keynes, that will still keep our warranty valid.

I decided to speak to the Cadillac Europe Customer Assistance Centre just now, as advised in the letter (that'll be Vauxhall at Luton then).
They don't want to know and all enquiries are to go to Bauer Millett.
I'll call them later...

Mark if they are going to make us go to BM lets see about them trailering our cars up there most C5's are down South thats why we had service agents down here, its not our fault when Cadillac took over October 03 these agents either stopped or where droped I do not know which.

Here's a question. How much does the 'fix' cost if you're having an import done. I'm assuming that the US warranty isn't valid.
