What headunit have you got a the moment?
If you want no distortion at high volume you WILL need an amp......most distortion is caused by the headunit, as the internal amplifiers are not up to the job.....IIRC the term is known as "clipping"
Also don't bother with the rear speakers, as they are too small to get any decent sound quality from, and being so close to your head a lughole level, they are all you will hear.
I have Kenwood 17.5cm in the doors, with seperate tweeters mounted just above them, and a 10" sub in the cubby hole....all run from an amp in the boot.....sounds great.......but no way near as good as the sports zorsts

Had one of these in the Cerb - great sound quality, styling matches the car, colour of LEDs matches the car, having the volume control angled out towards you is an improvement, and it does all the WMA/MP3 things you could ever want...
Shop around on EBay, and I'm sure you'll be able to get one cheaper, too.

Not good enough without amps, definitely need amps... an extra battery, an isolator... 2 thundering 12-inch subs in the boot with routed air intakes into the helmet hole customised with neon lights and twin mono-block amps mounted in V form... will look the dogs nuts and sound the part.... like when boldy in fast'n'furious switches his system on on the first drag run in his rx7...

Hows the sound of the Pioneer when you turn it right up?
It's about as good as you'll get without amps, and as good as you'll get for the money. If you're really serious about your music, you'll definitely need an amp. But it is 50w x 4. And has all the pre-outs, etc. you'll need if you ever want to upgrade.
The K'-series engine is a little beast when done up... this looks like the beginning of a journey that will without any doubts lead to a 500bhp rover aka quick shopping trolley....
I had a 623gsi rover... and she was modded (heavily)... beatiful to drive, but she had limits because of the honda plant in her... I think James can take this baby allllll the way and at next to not much cost either.... whats next J, brand spanking 19" chrome wheels?

K Series? No no no... It's the mighty (snigger) T series in the 620.
Seriously needs new pistons in it to get it to safely run 20PSI boost. Might just switch a set off a 220 Turbo coupe - they ran better quality pistons than those in the 620. Not sure whether to go down that route, and aim for continuous 330-350BHP, or to just stick NOS on it for a laugh (if you'll excuse the pun) and 400BHP on tap. First thing to do is get it looking like the diesel spec with not-so-brand-spanking steel wheels & hub caps, then sort the suspension out, though.
One other thing - my overall budget is £2500 (it is just a shopping trolley, after all) to keep it interesting. Spent £1500 so far...
This WILL be the ultimate Q-car.
