Recommend me some road bike tyres!

I am sure you can do better than my LBS!

My bike came with Continental Grand Prix" in a 700x24c size. These tyres were great but I cannot get hold of replacement ones. When they wore out (after 2500miles) I replaced them with Specialized S-Works Turbo 700x24c tyres as recommended by my LBS - Both have now split after only 6 weeks use (approx 400 miles use).

I would like a tyre that lasts more than 10 minutes - and will never touch Noramilized Shte-Works Tyres again!.

I am considering getting a pair of Continental Grand Prix 4000s II. Is there anything else I should consider?

Continental Gatorskins if puncture resistance is your main priority. Not IMO the best wet road tyres ever, though.

Vittoria Open Pave are, I think, the best all-round medium-weight tyre there is, but YMMV.

I just replaced my tyres with Michelin Lithion 2's and they have been great so far and come with plenty of sidewall colours too.

After a recommendation from someone on here, I'm using Vredestein Fortezza TriComp, 23C. I'm now on my second set, the first set lasted about 3000 miles, I think.

Good grip in wet and dry conditions, fairly lightweight, and so far no pu****res!

I paid about £39 for a pair from merlin.

I've got Conti Grand Prix 4000s on my bike and see no reason to change them; think Merlin also do these for under 40 quid. They are not totally puncture proof but I don't think any tyre is; great in the dry (you don't even think about the grip, you think about how big your cojones are first!) and not far off in the wet.

Yep, agree with that. I even have a pair on my track bike which I use at Herne Hill Velodrome. Really good tyres, love em. I use Schwalbe Ultremo ZX'S on my race bike and they are superb and really quick but they won't last like the Tri Comps.

Like the Grand Prix 4000, but better in the wet, and pretty robust too...

...I bought a set for use as 'winter' tyres, but they ended up staying on all year round. Comfortable, and great wet grip, with a pretty good dose of puncture resistance, in my personal experience.

Quick observation for the OP - you mention the tyres being 24c. That's a rather unusual size, which might explain your LBS problem in finding them. The relevant regular sizes are 23c or 25c - 25c are probably the better bet (a smidge wider where 23c are a smidge narrower). Unless the frame is really tight/close to the tyres, I'd get a set of 25c's.

All the Continental tyres advised above are pretty good. The latest Gatorskin (25mm) I bought from Evans and they price matched Wiggle at £20 + change. At that price you can't go too far wrong.

I don't get on with Conti's at all, weak sidewalls and sketchy handling convinced me to give them away! After much trial and error I settled on Vredestein Tri-comp Fortezza's for the summer, and Quattros for the winter months (although the Fortezza's are good for all weathers, the Quattros are crappy weather specific so have a thicker centre ridge and different tread pattern on the shoulders).

I have just found out that both of the above have been discontinued - aarrgghh, however they have been replaced with the Senso all weather (tri-comp replacement), and Senso all weather extreme (quattro replacement).

I have just ordered a pair of all weathers in 25mm, I will let you know how I get on with them......

I have ordered a pair of these! They look like a step up from the original tyres the bike came with (continental grand prix) and will hopefully last longer than the Normalized ones.
