So, Jag's 3 series fighter is being launched tomorrow. And from all the things circulating the web, it's looking like it'll be absolutely fantastic, and banish all memories of the X Type. I have a damn good feeling about it, and as long as it looks good from the back (we've only seen it from the front so far), I'll be in touch with my nearest Jag dealer soon enough

You just know that most of the ones on the road will be the base 2.0 diesel version though...

And,?

The 320d has and is a sublime car and the Merc Audi jag etcetera alternate will be targeting class leading. Personally I'd look at the 3ltrs but there is nothing wrong with the diesel

Although I'm not in a position to buy if it helps them make enough money to make a Type R version then I'm happy for those that want to buy the diesel.

I've seen it.

Don't like the rear of it. Front looks very good though, then again all current jags look great head on.

Without the additional panels that have been attached to all the test versions?

I guess there will be some bargains in a year or two as the vast majority will be company cars or leased at low prices to friends of friends of people on the Jaguar VIP scheme.

It'll have to be good to take on the current 3/4 series BMWs and new C-class Merc.

Relax. It's merely an observation on the current motoring landscape.

I think the marketing dept can take the rest of the year off I think. First the banned F Type ads which made everybody look at them, now that, they're a cut above the Audi/BMW/Merc marketers who're all billboards and dull adverts.

in 10 years, who's going to remember a 320D advert where you mention a Jaguar XE you'll get "oh, isn't that the car that was underneath a helicopter and flown around London?"

Fantastic, new idea.

IIRC initially they will all be 2 litre, and obviously diesel will be in the majority.

My father is keen on one of these and I'm trying hard to get him to wait until they put some more interesting engines in.

Let's hope it doesn't have the same ridiculous DRLs as the XF.

residuals will need to be good for lease deals to look attractive vs 3-series

Thing is, why "flying a car under a helicopter" is all good and well to get a few column inches on a single day, by tomorrow it will be old news, and at that point, what matters is NONE of this marketing malarky and EVERYTHING about how the car compares to the Germans on those crucial parameters like cost, performance and critically (in this segment) Co2.........
